In September of this year we embarked on our first destination wedding adventure. Our trip took us to Calgary, Alberta. We had the great pleasure of photographing the absolutely spectacular Harry Potter themed wedding of R & R at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).Â
Our day started early in the morning as the bride and groom enjoyed some quality time with their brides maids/ groomsmen. The ceremony was held in the early afternoon in front of the grand entrance to Heritage Hall at SAIT. As a relatively large wedding, it was incredibly intimate. Despite the hazy glow of forest fire smoke drifting in from the Rocky Mountains, the golden afternoon light treated us to some gorgeous couples photos in and around the property.Â
The highlight, by far, was an impromptu recreation of the couple's first dance in the SAIT soccer field overlooking the Calgary cityscape at dusk. This was one of those moments that only we as photographers had the great honour of experiencing along with the couple. They told us it was the best part of the night for them and we too remember this moment with great tenderness.
Other memorable moments from this meticulously planned wedding include: the bride's first look with her father, the sparkler celebration after sunset, the bride's moving ceremony speech (in Romanian, which she learned for her new husband and his family), and the incredible details included in each and every aspect of the wedding schedule and decor.
